There are a handful of small kitchens that are inspiring me as I am in the process of adding the finishing touches on our kitchen. The thing I have noticed about all of them are the pops of color, various textures, and the efficient organization.
The first kitchen inspiration is from the Great Interior Design and I love the feel of casual and lived-in, especially in a kitchen. I am very attracted to the textures in the baskets, the wall paper, the floor and the glassware/dishware and the colors in this space. This kitchen has color but retains a calming quality. There is an overseas, countryside character that does not overpower or distract from the modern, retro vibe.
Personality in a space is one of the first things I look for in a space. If a space is “too pretty,” it almost has the reverse affect of it’s mission. Rooms with everything from the same collection at Pottery Barn is not design in my opinion. Professional designers do not select everything from the same manufacturer (hopefully not) because a little bit of variety goes a long way in creating a space of interest.
