Faux Fireplace Finesse

I have come across many a home in real life and on the web with non-functioning or even fake fireplaces. Sometimes when they are old and don’t work it seems unclear as to what to do with them or how to “dress” them. Other times if you have a faux fireplace, the same conundrum exists, so here are some photos I’ve found with some creative solutions, I hope this gives you great ideas and inspiration :)

A simple sculptural piece added to this elegant non-functioning fireplace coordinates beautifully with the ornate style of the fireplace surround and facing. The key here is the similar styles working together, not being distracting or taking away from one another.

Pottery, plants, candles are some objects that are easy to deal with and will work in most fireplace set ups, just choose what suits you the best, feel free to play around with things you already have in your home to give you more possibilities.

At first I thought the stumps were in the fireplace, which is cool :)

But then I realized there were other items in there!
Fireplace screens can be another option, but I would steer away from the thin, swirly wrought iron ones. Basically, the screens that have more “weight” to them would be more suitable for non-functioning and faux fireplaces because they add more depth and visual drama—which is good :)

This little gizmo actually provides heat!
If you want the look of flames and perhaps a little bit of heat, there are some options, the most popular thing now-a-days is the ethanol burning fireplaces (they don’t emit smoke).

This could perhaps fit into a fireplace....hmmm
And remember, you can also go “double duty” and turn it into a bookcase or another storage compartment. I haven’t seen any that I like in that realm so far, but I think it can be done, maybe you can be the first to pull it off and don’t forget to send photos :)

Re doing the fireplace like the one with the 20 squraed section mirror above it. Love it! ANy idea where I could find a similar mirror?
Thank you :)
Lisa
That would be squared* lol
There is one at Pottery Barn for around $700…. You could always try checking Craigslist, HomeGoods, Hobby Lobby, etc. because they might have less expensive versions. I also found a tutorial on how to make one like the Pottery Barn mirror over at A Creative Beginning that you can check out. Hopefully one of those options will work out for you ;)
