Too Many Things

One of my summer goals that is meandering it’s way into the fall is “de-cluttering everywhere in my house.”  I think this is a good thing to do all of the time, so perhaps it will always be on my lists ;)  Here is a great example from my home of some open shelving in my kitchen that needed a major overhaul.  Part of the clutter from before was due to the fact that we had a roommate who obviously needed space in the kitchen for his food and “stuff.”  Now that we can use all the space in our kitchen (our roommate moved out and got married, congrats Kris and Sarah!), and we had the time to sort through what we do and do not need, we were able to simplify our kitchen shelving.  Take a look at the difference:

Simpler, larger items make it easier to know what you're looking at

The kitchen is always evolving, but my hope is that as it evolves and as I grow, it will continuously be refined and simplified.  I want anyone who comes into my kitchen to be able to find what they are looking for quickly.  My goal is to have items in logical places, near (or as near as I can get them) to the areas where they are used most often.  I hope this helps and inspires you in your kitchen ;)

I like open shelving to be practical and pleasant at the same time

What are some of your kitchen goals this season?
