The Finished Product

Yes. It took way more than one week.  In reality, it all could have been done in a weekend, but you know how life happens ;)  However, I am enjoying sweet victory over this little walkway spot.  Here’s what it looked like when I started:

There is a cement path underneath the creeping grass

Cleared the Path

Grass all dug up

We dug out all of the grass, saved some newspapers, bought some plants, top soil, mulch and VOILA!  The bit of hard work in the Florida sun has paid off and now that is one less thing we have to think about (for now).  The website, FloridaYards.org has a plant database that really helped me figure out which plants I wanted in between my walkway.  You can search different parameters (full sun, Florida native plants only, sandy soil, etc) and it will show you all the plants that meet your criteria.  You can click on each plant and get more details about it as well.  It was a great resource that I will continue to use ;)

Looking forward to new growth!

Other plants in the bed include: Angelonia, Blanket Flower and Red Fountain Grass. The Red Fountain Grass and Purslane clippings came from my yard and I purchased the others. We’ll see if the Fountain Grass will make it ;)
