Conf. Jasmine and a succulent

I am always on the lookout for large plant holders that are inexpensive, I love large scale, but I do not like large costs.  One sunny, Florida day, I happen to be shopping at Aldi and saw these large plastic beverage tubs.  They had little handles on each side and I thought they looked nice and they were $4!  I bought 2 -  one to use for its intended purpose (color: Bright Yellow) and the other I knew I wanted to use it as a plant pot (color: Black).

I also wanted some sort of vine to cover that fence from both sides so I needed to have a plant pot with a vine on the opposite side where there is no soil.  I already planted one Confederate Jasmine on the side of the fence with the soil and so it was just natural to put another Jasmine plant on the other side.  This way the less than fabulous fence will be covered with fragrant vines and hide the view of our trash/recycling bins from the backyard!

Of course I was totally pumped at the store and then got home and it took like a month to actually do it.  Drilling the holes took all of 1 minute to do, this is oh so easy, that you should do it today!  I’m sure there are a ton of metal and plastic beverage holders on sale now and as the Summer season wanes.  I’ve seen some beverage holders come with stands, which is cool as well ;)  Below is a simple tutorial on how I did it.

Hopefully the Jasmine take over the chain link fence very soon!

This is why we want the Jasmine to cover the fence:

This is why it needs to cover the fence! To disguise the unsightly trash/recycling area and also we will be putting a rain barrel in that nook as well.

Not only will it disguise ugly chain link fence, it will also hide the trash area AND it will smell nice over there as well!  So many great advantages! Have you noticed the non-pressure washed area around my new plant holder? Unfortunately when we were having things pressure washed we put some of the items that were on the porch, in that little corner during the cleaning and now we are left with this!  I will try to clean it on my own soon, so that it doesn’t drive me insane when I look over there ;)
