Sometimes when searching on Craigslist, you’ll find items that are NOT deals at all, like this:
When I first saw this I was excited and thought it was a good deal (of course I would still try to negotiate). I knew to look on Ikea’s website because that piece of furniture screamed IKEA and I was pretty sure I had seen it there before. I did a simple search on the Ikea website and found the exact item…..for $10 cheaper than what the seller was asking for!
Want to get a good deal on an item you know is overpriced, try this:
- In replying to the seller: Add the online store link of the item with the price to the email to let them know that they are overselling and/or that you have not been fooled.
- Ask for half of the original value and have a price in mind that you are not willing to go above (and stick to it).
If you are unsure of where a furniture item is from, just do a Google search for similar items to get a gauge on pricing and feel free to add those links into your reply email if they are very similar.
